HAVE YOU BEEN RESURRECTED, SPIRITUALLY?
We just celebrated the resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection is good news, because it is victory over sin and death. When we put our faith in the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are revived, resurrected and reborn, spiritually. But why do we need to be reborn or resurrected Spiritually? Because all mankind is dead, spiritually.
The Apostle Paul explains what the resurrection does for us spiritually in Ephesians chapter two, he writes: Once you were dead because of your sins…But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead (2:1,4-5). Good thing Jesus rose again or we wouldn’t have been saved from spiritual death.
I love what Paul teaches next, For He (God) raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus (v 6). In other words, spiritually, we receive an inheritance and place in the heavenly realms with Jesus. But how do we receive this resurrection from spiritual death? Paul says, God saved you by His grace when you believed (v 8). It is by faith in Jesus we are revived or resurrected from spiritual death and given new life (Ephesians 2:1;4-6; 8).
You may not see an instant change in you physically, but to God you are reborn. It’s not long though that the resurrection starts resurrecting things, because the Spirit of resurrection, the Holy Spirit, lives in all who believe. The Apostle Paul tells the Christian church in Rome, The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living among you (Romans 8:11). You’ll notice a new hunger for more of God, a desire to do what is holy, a more cautious view of partaking in sin, a love for others, attitude changes and much more.
This spiritual resurrection is the most important. Spiritual death means eternal death and separation from God. What good is it to be healed physically, or have God change circumstances in our lives if we haven’t been saved and resurrected from spiritual death? If you haven’t had your spiritual rebirth and resurrection, that is your greatest need.
This spiritual resurrection is actually resurrecting God’s intended and original plan to be in relationship with you. In other words, you are reconciled, brought back to a peaceful, relationship with God. This is the way it should have been all along, but sin came and severed that relationship. But God!
God has resurrected your relationship with Him if you believe in Jesus, but this is only the beginning! Transformation continues and God is going to do new things in your life. God has great plans for you.
If you still need to be resurrected or revived and you believe you need to be, you can say a prayer like this one from your heart to God…
Dear God,
Thank you for loving me. Thank you for giving your Son, Jesus, to die for my sin. I believe he rose again to give me new life. I believe I am forgiven and confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior. To thank you, I give my life to love and serve you. In Jesus name, amen!
