AFTER THE SERMON-Embrace over Escape
We hope today’s message was encouraging and helpful. Take a moment to process and discuss what God may be trying to say to everyone in your home. If no one is with you, have a personal conversation with God, He is with you.
Scripture: Matthew 26:36-56
(If you’re leading a Bible study this week we recommend reading through the provided scripture to catch everyone up!)
Overview:
Pastor Ryan shared about the moment when Peter tried to help Jesus escape being arrested in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus rebuked Peter saying, “But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the Scriptures.” Jesus submitted himself to God’s will and plan for His life and endure what was to come next. Jesus did this for our sake, something Peter would fully realize in just a few days. The bottom line Pastor Ryan was communicating is that we need to consider what God’s will is in the midst of this crisis we are in. Rather than try to avoid or escape, we should embrace God’s will, just as Jesus did.
Takeaways:
Pastor Ryan shared the following takeaways to consider as we face this current crisis of our day:
There are two ways to face crises in life, escape or fulfillment.
God doesn’t ask us to fully understand, He asks us to trust Him.
His will isn’t for us to worry, it is to trust His will.
Everything we go through is part of God’s plan for us.
Romans 8:28: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”
Pay attention and pray.
Discussion:
What stuck out to you from today’s message?
Why does it make us uncomfortable to not fully understand what God is doing? What can we do to ease our anxiety about it?
Pastor Ryan shared a list of things that God is still doing in the midst of this crisis, such as, strengthening the church, strengthening our faith and strengthening families. What good have you seen or have personally experienced coming out of this situation?
Since God uses adversity to grow and transform us, (and all things work together for the good) what are some things you think He is trying to work in us?
What are you prompted to pray about after hearing today’s message?
Pray:
Invite everyone to say a simple prayer related to the message or whatever is on their heart (If someone is shy, don’t force it).
