AFTER THE SERMON-More Than Coffee and Donuts-Part 2

We hope today’s message was encouraging and helpful. Take a moment to process and discuss what God may be trying to say to everyone in your home or in your community group. If no one is with you, have a personal conversation with God, He is with you.

SERIES: TOGETHER

Sermon Title: More Than Coffee and Donuts - Part 2

Main Scripture: Colossians 2:6-10; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 3:12-14; Proverbs 27:17

Other scriptures mentioned: Colossians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 3:18; James 5:16

(If you’re going through this discussion with a community group this week consider taking the time to read or paraphrase through some of the provided scripture to catch everyone up!)

Overview:

Pastor Ryan took our together series to the next focus of fellowship that encourages spiritual growth. We learned that we are to grow and go deeper in Christ, together. Jesus is the goal of our growth, He’s the blueprint for who we are becoming, the inspiration for building up another. Scripture was clear today, we grow by being surrounded by others who are growing. We learned it is extremely important that our personal fellowship with God is vibrant and healthy so when we come together Jesus is pouring out of us. Pastor Ryan then ended the message with four practical ways we can intentionally help each other grow which they will be useful for decades to come! Takeaways:

We need to be concerned for a new believer who doesn’t understand the basics of the Christian faith but is very familiar with the world.

Human nature tends to revert back to what is familiar and comfortable.

We have to help new believers get familiar with their newfound relationship with God.

“God has made us in such a way that our fellowship with himself is fed by our fellowship with fellow Christians.” -J I Packer

Bad company corrupts good character, but Godly company builds Godly character.

Knowledge with obedience equals spiritual growth.

When we enter spiritual fellowship we must be committed to two things:

  1. Personal fellowship with God, first.

  2. Mutual commitment and responsibility for one another.

Four Biblical activities to help each other grow:

  1. Share Biblical Truth

  2. Transparency

  3. Accountability

  4. Praying Together

Discussion:

  • What was a big takeaway for you from today’s message?

  • How does our personal relationship with God impact those around us or those we fellowship with?

  • Why does it concern Pastor Ryan when new believers don’t have spiritual parents around them?

  • Are we responsible for someone else’s growth, why or why not?

  • Biblical Knowledge doesn’t equal spiritual growth but Biblical knowledge with obedience does, why is that?

  • Why does holding each other accountable help us grow in our faith?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your grace that has saved and transformed us. Our desire is to be more like your Son, Jesus. Conform and shape us through fellowship, the Word, Accountability and Prayer. Teach us through your Word and give us the humility to learn from one another. May we also be an inspiration of devotion to you to those around us. In Jesus name, Amen!

We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
