AFTER THE SERMON-More Than Coffee and Donuts
We hope today’s message was encouraging and helpful. Take a moment to process and discuss what God may be trying to say to everyone in your home or in your community group. If no one is with you, have a personal conversation with God, He is with you.
SERIES: TOGETHER
Sermon Title: More Than Coffee and Donuts - Part 1
Main Scripture: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Mark 2:1-12; Galatians 6:2
Other scriptures mentioned: 1 Thessalonians 5:11; 1 Corinthians 12:25-26
(If you’re going through this discussion with a community group this week consider taking the time to read or paraphrase through some of the provided scripture to catch everyone up!)
Overview:
We learned last week how important it is that we get together and there’s a reason because we need each other. But we get together because it also helps us grow. We may not think being with others helps us grow but it really does. Scriptures like Ecclesiastes 4;9-12 or Galatians 6:2 show the benefit of having others around you. Pastor Ryan shared how we help one another overcome and grow through difficult events or moments in their lives. We even learned in this message today to be or provide a community where you can be real so you can truly heal. Being together is more than about coffee and donuts because real-life issues that need our care and attention are going to come up. It’s often those real-life issues that are moments of growth for everyone in the fellowship. You grow, we all grow, when we apply scripture to care and carry one another’s burdens.
Takeaways:
God has called us to simply care for one another.
Carry one another to the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.
Getting together allows us to express and experience the love of God.
When we go through things together we grow through them.
REAL Fellowship is where we can feel comfortable to be ourselves.
REAL Fellowship is where we can wrestle with questions and doubts and still be accepted.
REAL Fellowship is where we can trust to share our personal burdens.
REAL Fellowship is where we can receive Biblical correction with humility.
REAL fellowship is willing to embrace real-life, messy issues so we can come out of them more like Jesus.
Discussion:
What was a big takeaway for you from today’s message?
What takeaway would you add? Maybe you took something from it that wasn’t said.
Why does Christian fellowship need to go beyond the surface of having coffee and donuts?
Why do we grow together when we help and carry each other’s burdens?
What is it like to carry burdens by yourself? What would it be like if you didn’t have someone to talk to?
What did you think about the REAL fellowship? Which point means a lot to you?
Who have you leaned on over the years when you were in need? Why did you go to them…why did you feel safe?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank you for welcoming us into the family of God. Give us people who we can be real with us. Help us to go beyond the surface and care for one another. May we be expressions of your grace and truth in our fellowships. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
