AFTER THE SERMON-Bridging Forward
We hope today’s message was encouraging and helpful. Take a moment to process and discuss what God may be trying to say to everyone in your home or in your community group. If no one is with you, have a personal conversation with God, He is with you.
SERIES: Building Bridges
Sermon Title: Bridging Forward
Main Scripture: Matthew 9:35-38
Other scripture mentioned: 1 Corinthians 15:58
(If you’re going through this discussion with a community group this week consider taking the time to read or paraphrase through some of the provided scripture to catch everyone up!)
Overview:
Pastor Ryan concluded the Building Bridges series by challenging us to rethink and adapt how we’ve looked at church. We were encouraged to think more like a missionary church instead of a stationary church. We learned that over 2000 years ago the harvest (the people who are lost) is plentiful, but there weren’t enough workers. We learned that God is in charge of the harvest, they are His fields. We learned we are to pray that God would send out workers, laborers to go into those fields and bring in the harvest. Pastor Ryan was saying that true revival goes beyond the church gathering for worship. We worship, worship too much. To worship God is to also shine in the dark to show the way to Jesus. Before Pastor Ryan commissioned us to Go into the world and continue building bridges he said it’s going to take the following: Faith in God, Time, Care, Courage, and Perseverance.
Takeaways:
We can sit around and wonder what happened to our world while it keeps going to hell in a handbasket or we can acknowledge the reality and gravity of the situation, roll up our sleeves and do something about it.
The American church planned for the lost to flock to church, but God planned that the church goes to find the lost.
Calvary is not a stationary church, but a missionary church!
We want revival but we need to be the revival.
Discussion:
What was one big takeaway for you from this message?
What did you sense the Holy Spirit was saying to you during this message?
What do you think it means to be a stationary church?
What are the dangers of being a stationary church?
Calvary has been a missionary church since its birth but how can we improve and adjust even more to the world we are living in? (Make sure you’re ideas are not what we do on Sunday morning at the church or any day at the church for that matter. What can we do during the week off of our property!?)
From your own experience share what it takes to build a bridge…
Pray:
Heavenly Father, Lord of the harvest, we recognize your harvest is ready and plenty. Help us to see what you see. We pray for workers to be sent forth into the harvest fields. Give us courage and faith in You to be one of those laborers. Give us the power and presence of your Holy Spirit. Lead and use us to bridge the lost to Jesus. We trust you, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
