Overview:
Pastor Ryan began our new series The Journey of Generosity in one of the most generous times of the year. As Pastor Ryan said, generosity isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. We learned today that God is very generous. We get our generosity from God. Generosity is admired and celebrated in the days and life of Jesus. God’s greatest expression of generosity was in the giving of His Son for our salvation. When we receive the generous love of Jesus into our hearts, we become generous too. Overall, we learned that a heart of generosity doesn’t come from our own efforts but from the generous love of Jesus in our lives.
Takeaways:
God gave, first!
The generosity God demonstrated for us was sacrificial, not comfortable.
You don’t have to give a lot to be generous (Luke 21:1-4)
Generosity isn’t giving out of abundance, it’s giving out of gratitude for what God has given us.
Generosity is a matter of the heart (Luke 19:1-10)
The powerful message of the gospel is that Jesus creates hearts that are generous without having to fabricate it.
Our generosity is a response to God’s abundant generosity toward us.
When we are generous, our lives reflect the heart of God.
God uses our generosity to express his own generosity, as he channels his resources through us to bless others.
Every act of generosity that you offer someone ultimately points them to God’s generosity.
Discussion:
What was one big takeaway for you from this message?
What did you sense the Holy Spirit was saying to you during this message?
What story of generosity stuck out to you from the message today and why?
How would you define a generous gift, by the amount or by the sacrifice? Anything else?
Why is genuine generosity from the heart so much better than being coerced or guilted to give?
Why is it important that we give from the transformation of the gospel in our hearts versus our own efforts?
We learned that God meant for us to be generous so what can we do to realign ourselves with you we really are again?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us everything, literally everything. We are nothing and we have nothing without you. I am a beneficiary of your generous grace and I want you to use me to be generous as well in every area of my life. Use my generosity to point the world to your generous love, In Jesus’ name, Amen!
We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
