AFTER THE SERMON-Jesus Is Essential

We hope today’s message was encouraging and helpful. Take a moment to process and discuss what God may be trying to say to everyone in your home or in your community group. If no one is with you, have a personal conversation with God, He is with you.

Scripture: John 14:1-7

(Other Scriptures referenced: John 5:39-40; 1 John 5:20; John 17:17; John 10:9-10; John 6:68-69; Psalm 23).

(If you’re going through this discussion with a community group this week consider taking the time to read or paraphrase through some of the provided scripture to catch everyone up!)

Overview:

Pastor Ryan shared the powerful statement that Jesus gave his disciples in a troubling time, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus was clear, the way to the Father (God) was through faith in Him. The chaos, confusion, and uncertainty of our nation have us overwhelmed and dizzy. The certainty of Jesus in just one sentence gives us comfort, strength, and clarity in our current world. Pastor Ryan makes the point that if there is ever a time where Jesus shines it is now. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life…Jesus is exactly what our world needs, but it’s also the reminder we need as believers to keep us centered. Pastor Ryan encouraged and challenged us to do as Jesus would do. The way forward and through is the way of Jesus, the truth of Jesus, and the life of Jesus.

Takeaways:

  • Faith in Jesus is the only way to eternal life with God

  • Jesus literally embodies the way, the truth, and the life…Jesus puts skin on them.

  • Jesus has the integrity that makes His way, His Truth, His life, trustworthy and reliable

  • Jesus is THE WAY to think, THE WAY to speak, THE WAY to live

  • In a world that is chaotic, Jesus is a steady constant

  • If there are confusion and lies, Jesus isn’t in it (He is the Way and the Truth)

  • If there are despair and destruction, Jesus isn’t in it (He is Life)

  • The way of Jesus keeps you on righteous paths

  • The truth of Jesus keeps you grounded in unsettling times

  • The life of Jesus keeps you encouraged and shining

Discussion:

  1. What stuck out to you from today’s message and why?

  2. How have you been feeling about all the confusion and chaos?

  3. How does Jesus being the way, the truth and the life help in our context today?

  4. What scripture, what examples of Jesus have you seen that our world could really learn and obey right now?

  5. How have you been thinking, speaking and living out the way of Jesus in the past few months?

  6. Is there anything you need to work on after hearing today’s message that you feel comfortable sharing?

Challenge:

Follow the way of Jesus in all that you think, say and do this week (every week)

Let God’s Word be your guide

Pray:

God, thank you for giving us clear direction to you and a perfect example of how we should think, speak and live. We choose to not get caught up in the ways of this world. Show us in your word this week your way, truth, and life. And we open our hearts to sense your Spirit guide us as we live moment by moment of each day. Amen

We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
