Summary:

Pastor Larry Goldberg serves as the Creative Arts Pastor and is the leader of Calvary’s Fine Arts Team. He brings us a message of reaching the next generation of believers and the responsibilities given to us by God to be .

Notes:

Mark 10:13-16 MSG

The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.” Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.

1 Samuel 1:1-10 MSG

The boy Samuel was serving God under Eli’s direction. This was at a time when the revelation of God was rarely heard or seen. One night Eli was sound asleep (his eyesight was very bad—he could hardly see). It was well before dawn; the sanctuary lamp was still burning. Samuel was still in bed in the Temple of God, where the Chest of God rested. 4-5 Then God called out, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel answered, “Yes? I’m here.” Then he ran to Eli saying, “I heard you call. Here I am.”Eli said, “I didn’t call you. Go back to bed.” And so he did.6-7 God called again, “Samuel, Samuel!”Samuel got up and went to Eli, “I heard you call. Here I am.”Again Eli said, “Son, I didn’t call you. Go back to bed.” (This all happened before Samuel knew God for himself. It was before the revelation of God had been given to him personally.)8-9 God called again, “Samuel!”—the third time! Yet again Samuel got up and went to Eli, “Yes? I heard you call me. Here I am.”That’s when it dawned on Eli that God was calling the boy. So Eli directed Samuel, “Go back and lie down. If the voice calls again, say, ‘Speak, God. I’m your servant, ready to listen.’” Samuel returned to his bed.10 Then God came and stood before him exactly as before, calling out, “Samuel! Samuel!”Samuel answered, “Speak. I’m your servant, ready to listen.”

1 Timothy 4:12 NLT

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.

1 Samuel 17:41

Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. 42 He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. 43 He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?”

Job 12:12

With Old age is wisdom, and with length of days is understanding.

WE ARE THE HOLDERS OF THE LESSONS TO BE LEARNED.

Proverbs 20:29

The Glory of youths is their strength, but the beauty of the aged is their gray hair.

Psalm 71:17-18 NLT

O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Discussion:

  • What did God use in this sermon to speak to your heart or situation?

  • What part of the scripture stuck out to you and why?

  • In what ways are you reaching the next generation?

  • Was there a person in your youth that helped you with your walk with Christ? If so, who was it and what did they do for you?

  • What takeaways or points did you find the most important to you during the sermon?

The most important decision you will ever make!

If you’re ready to trust in Jesus for salvation and eternal life we encourage you to process this decision with a strong believer and when you’re ready say a simple prayer like this from your heart: Dear God, I acknowledge and admit I have sinned. I see my need for Jesus Christ. I believe in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I believe I am forgiven and cleansed of my sin by His death. I also believe I have eternal life because of His resurrection from the dead. I repent, I turn away from my old ways and I choose to live my life to worship you and follow Jesus, Amen!

We would love to know if you decided to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Let us know here.
