Summary:

We have Good Friday for the day Jesus died for our sins but nothing has really caught on for Saturday. Pastor Ryan gave it the name “Hopeless Saturday” and took us on a little journey through some of the scripture to show us how lives were changing as the sun (and Son of God) rose! On Saturday, before the resurrection, the lives of Jesus’ faithful followers were marked with sorrow, fear, doubt, and grief. We can only imagine what they were thinking and going through after having such high hopes. Saturday could have been the hardest day of them all, after all, they had a whole sabbath of rest to think about the death of Jesus. But as Saturday passed and like a new dawn, hope rose from the horizon and from the grave. Mary and a group of women were the first to encounter the risen Lord, then the disciples, Thomas, and many more over a span of 40 days. From that moment and day forward their lives were marked by joy, hope, faith, belief, praise, worship, and boldness. These qualities rose up in them because Jesus was alive and with them! Pastor Ryan challenged us not to get stuck in our sorrow, hopelessness, and doubt. We don’t have to be stuck. We can get out of our “Hopeless Saturdays” because Jesus has risen, He is alive and He’s come to live in and with us! Believe in Jesus and He will set you free from everything that is holding you back!

Takeaways:

  • As Saturday passed and a new dawn rose on Sunday morning... so did the son of God.

  • Hope rose from the horizon and from the grave. But that’s not all that rose from the grave... Because Jesus turns...

    Sorrow to joy

    Despair to hope

    Doubt to belief

    Confusion to clarity

    Worry to worship

    Silence to praise

    Bad news to good news

    Fear to confidence

    Guilty to forgiven

    Dead to new life

  • We don’t have to be stuck in our “hopeless saturday.”

  • Jesus is our joy through the sorrow, hope through the hard times, confidence through the worry, belief through the doubt, good news through the bad!

  • Live like the resurrection happened!

  • The resurrection is assurance that sin and death have been defeated by Jesus. All who believe and trust in Him are forgiven, saved, and have eternal life.

  • Believe in Jesus and He will set you free from everything that is holding you back!

  • Let your “hopeless Saturday” go, hold onto your resurrected Lord!

Discussion:

  • What was one big takeaway for you from today’s message?

  • What something new you learned, today?

  • What scripture verse stuck out to you and why?

  • What did you sense the Holy Spirit was saying to you during this message?

  • Have you been struggling through a season like the disciples on “hopeless saturday?” How can we pray for you?

Pray:

Oh God, we celebrate new life, forgiveness of sin and eternal life. We celebrate that we are no longer stuck in our old life, sorrow, pain, fear and doubt. We are filled with joy, hope and faith because Jesus is alive! Thank you for pulling us out and through every thing that tries to keep us down. We love you and cling to your resurrection power! In Jesus name, Amen!

We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
