AFTER THE SERMON-Freedom Not In Vain
We hope today’s message was encouraging and helpful. Take a moment to process and discuss what God may be trying to say to everyone in your home or in your community group. If no one is with you, have a personal conversation with God, He is with you.
Scripture: Titus 2:11-14
(Other Scriptures referenced: Romans 6:12-14; Galatians 5:13-14).
(If you’re going through this discussion with a community group this week consider taking the time to read or paraphrase through some of the provided scripture to catch everyone up!)
Overview:
Pastor Ryan poured out and communicated a burden God put on his heart for the church in America. In a nutshell, we’ve been blessed with freedom from sin and death through Jesus’ sacrifice and we’ve been blessed to exercise our faith freely in our great nation. Pastor Ryan was challenged by God that we’ve taken those freedoms for granted and the time to steward them well is now. Let’s steward our liberty from sin by living holy and not satisfying the desires of our sinful nature. Let’s steward our liberty to exercise our faith by being brave to show Christ’s love and speak His truth. Pastor Ryan concluded that we should not let our freedoms be in vain and he encouraged us to have a kingdom perspective on what is going on in our nation. Let us remember our God-given citizenship guides how we live in America.
Takeaways:
Freedom isn’t free. Freedom comes with Responsibility.
Freedom means choice, but it doesn’t mean obedience. Just because I am free doesn’t mean I obey what God says. Obeying God is stewarding the freedom He has given us.
Unfortunately, we can be free but not live free.
We don’t lack freedom, we lack obedience.
We have freedom of speech so let us speak the hope and message of Jesus Christ.
We have the freedom to worship, so let us put down our idols and love God.
We have the freedom to love so let us find ways to show that love even if it isn't received.
Discussion:
What was a big takeaway from this message for you?
What does Pastor Ryan mean when he says to have a “kingdom of God” perspective here on earth?
How can we be grateful and be good stewards of what Jesus has done for us?
How can we be grateful and be good stewards of the freedom to exercise our faith in America?
We believe we should be involved in the political arena, how can we do it with the grace of Jesus?
How will you apply this message?
"True freedom is not the liberty to do whatever we want; it is the strength to do what we should. That is also true bravery. May God grant us that strength."
—Ravi Zacharias
Pray:
God, we are grateful for offering your son to set us free from sin and death. We commit ourselves to remain free from those sins that so easily entangle us. We thank you for our nation and the values that allow us to worship you freely. We commit ourselves to use our freedom to forward your gospel.
Challenge:
LOOK for someone to show LOVE and take time to LISTEN so you know how to LEAD them to Jesus.
We hoped you found this AFTER THE SERMON discussion helpful for your walk with Jesus. We pray you can find ways to apply it this week!
